Microsoft will be releasing the new Surface Go next month. Dubbed ‘the most portable Surface device’, it weighs 0.52 kilograms and is 8.3mm thin.

The 10” device is powered by the 7th Generation Intel Pentium Gold Processor 4415Y, in a fanless design, offering up to nine hours of battery. Pricing starts at US$399 (£301), which represents a new entry point for this range of Microsoft products.

There are plenty of custom-built features, including the high-resolution PixelSense Display that supports Surface Pen with 4096 levels of pressure sensitivity, low pen parallax and low latency. The 3:2 display is designed to be easy to look at for work-related tasks and to have high-contrast for watching films or editing photos.

There is also a new custom-made Surface Go Signature Type Cover that has an ergonomic key pitch, and a Windows Precision trackpad that supports five-point multi-finger gestures, with the option to connect the new Surface Mobile Mouse.

The screen can render a page to the scale in portrait mode to the size of an average school textbook, and in landscape mode to accommodate a side by side open paperback book.

The Surface Go has a built-in kickstand with full friction hinge that extends to 165 degrees, and a Windows Hello camera that allows for quick and secure sign-in using face recognition.

Surface Go with Wi-Fi is available for pre-order in select countries, with the product releasing on August 2. There will also be an LTE model releasing later this year.
