Justice software provider CaseLines is helping local authorities in the UK to future-proof their operations by using the cloud to enable secure and efficient working in the office and remotely.

The organisation has onboarded local authorities to its Microsoft Azure cloud-based bundle building and sharing platform each week since the UK’s Covid-19 response lockdown was implemented in March.

“The CaseLines platform has been vital in supporting local authorities responsible for child protection, helping them to operate as efficiently as possible during the pandemic as they migrate to remote working,” said Paul Sachs, founder of CaseLines.

CaseLines is now used by over 30 different authorities across the UK. Authorities in the north of England such as Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council, Rotherham Borough Council, Doncaster Children’s Services Trust and Sheffield City Council implemented the platform together to avoid as producing paper bundles for court.

“CaseLines is something good that has come out of this really dreadful time, in terms of being able to work in a much more efficient and cost-effective way,” said Marianne Farrell, team leader at Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council.

Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council has uploaded 80 per cent of its cases to CaseLines since its  eight-week implementation and training period. The council has freed up the time spent manually paginating, printing, and distributing paper bundles, and significantly reduced logistical expenditure and environmental impact while optimising processes.

The latest version of CaseLines supports Microsoft Azure Active Directory with Single Sign On. CaseLines says that Azure Active Directory “provides a central area where IT teams can manage user accounts and receive in-depth user reports” and “enhances security and control” for a user.

“Azure Active Directory’s Single Sign On means end users only need a single password,” said Simon Marshall, ICT technical security lead at Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council. “With remote working, we consider this level of security mandatory given the sensitivity of the information we’re handling, and it was very attractive that CaseLines could support this.”
