Through Azure Red Hat OpenShift, firms bring enterprise-grade Kubernetes solution to the cloud

Microsoft and open-source solution provider Red Hat have partnered to drive hybrid cloud development through the new enterprise-grade Kubernetes solution, Azure Red Hat OpenShift.

The solution is an open-source container orchestration system that enables organisations to automate the deployment, scaling and management of applications. It provides firms with a path to seamlessly migrate to hybrid cloud computing, use Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform in their datacentres and leverage Microsoft Azure’s scale. Azure Red Hat OpenShift is the first jointly managed OpenShift offering in the public cloud.

“Hybrid cloud provides a clear vision into the future of enterprise computing, where public cloud services stand alongside virtualisation, Linux containers and bare-metal servers,” said Paul Cormier, president of Products and Technologies at Red Hat. “Together, this forms the new datacentre in the hybrid cloud world. Azure Red Hat OpenShift provides a consistent Kubernetes foundation for enterprises to realise the benefits of this hybrid cloud model. This enables IT leaders to innovate with a platform that offers a common fabric for both app developers and operations.”

The firms are using Kubernetes to bridge the datacentre and public cloud environments, helping other organisations more readily expand into using cloud infrastructure as well as their on-premises investments.

Microsoft customers receive unified sign-up, onboarding, service management and technical support, all added to the existing Azure bill.

“Microsoft and Red Hat share a common goal of empowering enterprises to create a hybrid cloud environment that meets their current and future business needs,” said Scott Guthrie, executive vice president of Cloud and AI at Microsoft. “Azure Red Hat OpenShift combines the enterprise leadership of Azure with the power of Red Hat OpenShift to simplify container management on Kubernetes and help customers innovate on their cloud journeys.”
