Indian oil refinery Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (BPCL) has partnered with Microsoft to transform its customer experience. It will also use the cloud and artificial intelligence (AI) to drive digital transformation in the oil and gas industry.

Over the seven-year collaboration Microsoft will provide BPCL with infrastructure-as-a-service, platform-as-a-service, and network and security services on the cloud. BPCL will use Microsoft’s secure cloud platform to drive its cloud transformation, build smarter supply chains and increase customer engagement. In addition, BPCL will leverage Microsoft Teams and other productivity solutions to enhance employee collaboration.

“BPCL is one of the most respected public sector companies in the country and we are honoured to work together to define the next frontiers of data-driven innovation and customer engagement in the oil and gas industry,” said Anant Maheshwari, president of Microsoft India. “Bringing together BPCL’s operational expertise with Microsoft’s cloud and AI capabilities, our partnership will help fortify BPCL’s business operations with trust and security at the core.”

As part of the partnership, the two businesses will focus on creating a digital experience for BPCL customers, reaffirming BPCL’s brand promise of quality and trust, and building a conversational AI platform called Urja to provide anytime customer support.

“Microsoft has been one of the undisputed global leaders in technology for decades and BPCL is proud of taking this partnership forward in the cloud domain,” said Rahul Tandon, chief general manager at BPCL. “Through our cloud-based digital transformation project, we are focused on building innovative and customer-friendly solutions which are increasingly interconnected, smart, always available and provide a single window of BPCL services to customers seamlessly.”
