Microsoft is expanding its Canadian cloud infrastructure by adding Azure Availability Zones into the Azure Canada Central region. The move will increase compute capacity by over 1300% and give the region’s businesses greater security.

According to Microsoft, Azure Availability Zones give users added protection from hardware and software failures by providing multiple physical locations within an Azure region.

Microsoft will also increase compute capacity and add new capabilities to the Azure Canada East region in the first half of 2020 in a bid to drive business development in the country.

“Microsoft cloud services have been a core component to the growth and development of thousands of Canadian organisations. We continue to make significant investments in both cloud solutions and skilling programmes to ensure that all of our customers are able to accelerate their digital transformation,” said Kevin Peesker, president of Microsoft Canada. “The launch of Azure Availability Zones take Azure to a new level in Canada by offering customers increased reliability, performance and business continuity so they can thrive in the digital age.”
