Microsoft is expanding its automotive partner network and collaborated with FEV, LG Electronics, TomTom and others to accelerate vehicle-related technologies to drive the future of mobility.

According to Sanjay Ravi, Microsoft’s general manager of automotive, the company is focusing its efforts in connected vehicle solutions, autonomous driving and smart mobility solutions.

As part of its connected vehicle solution development, Microsoft has entered into several partnerships. LG Electronics’ web operating system (OS) Autoplatform is helping Microsoft bring premium TV experience into the vehicle. Automotive technology provider Faurecia is using the Microsoft Connected Vehicle Platform (MCVP) to create personalised services inside the vehicle  of the future to transform the onboard experience, and Cubic Telecom is bringing seamless connectivity to MCVP for the global market.

New partnerships are also helping Microsoft empower organisations to accelerate the delivery of safe, comfortable and personalised autonomous driving solutions. Bosch, FEV, Intempora and Applied Intuition will be showcasing their autonomous driving solutions at Microsoft’s stand at the Frankfurt Motor Show on 12-22 September 2019.

Engineering research association FEV is simplifying the validation process for automated driving functions with a data management system based on Microsoft Azure. Meanwhile, Intempora has unveiled its Intempora Validation Suite, a new software for the testing of advanced driver and assistance systems.

In addition, Microsoft is launching Microsoft for Startups: Autonomous Driving, a programme to accelerate the growth of start-ups working in the area.

The organisation has also started collaborating with mapping and navigation services providers TomTom and Moovit to improve its smart mobility solutions. For example, TomTom is integrating its navigation intelligence services within MCVP so that in-vehicle services can use location context, and Moovit is using Azure Maps to help people with disabilities get around.
