Cloud data management firm Rubrik has launched new data security features that enable businesses to assess the impact of ransomware attacks and automate recovery operations to maintain business continuity.

According to Bitdefender’s 2020 Mid-Year Threat Landscape Report, the total number of global ransomware reports increased more than 715 per cent from 2019 to 2020. Rubrik says that its data security provides “an important line of defence against these common threats” and enables users to see who is accessing sensitive data and be alerted of anomalous data events.

“There has never been a greater need to protect and quickly recover from rising cyber threats like ransomware, which are devastating businesses on a daily basis,” said Dan Rogers, president of Rubrik. “Rubrik continues to lead the cloud data management industry and innovate to address new and evolving data risks, allowing for quick recovery from attacks and protection of precious IP, no matter where the data is stored.”

Rubrik’s new capabilities include automated mass recovery of applications to restore normal business operations, two-factor authentication to help prevent unauthorised access, data risk management with new Sonar user behaviour analysis to determine who is accessing, modifying or adding files, and a global view of customers’ data estate so IT teams can quickly identify affected workloads and files.

The firm is also launching a new disaster recovery solution called AppFlows. It enables IT teams to use their existing investments in backup systems and removes the need to deploy and manage additional infrastructure.

In addition, Rubrik has updated its backup and recovery for Microsoft 365 applications, including SharePoint sites and Teams, its protections of Kubernetes workloads and its automated discovery and backup of SAP HANA on public cloud and on-premises.

“Until we implemented Sonar, we didn’t know how much our data could be at risk,” said Pankaj Govil, executive director of global storage infrastructure at Estee Lauder, a customer of Rubrik. “With the flip of a switch, we immediately identified at-risk data without all the manual work. Rubrik has become a core part of our security and compliance infrastructure and we are now in a much better position to protect our precious data and mitigate risk.”
