Windows 10 has officially reached one billion monthly active users, a milestone that Microsoft has been pursuing since it launched the operating system in 2015. Windows 10is the foundation of many devices and solutions in the last five years, realising modern IT for people and businesses all over the world, from developers and CEOs, to students and gamers.

According to a Windows blog post, 100 per cent of Fortune 500 business now use Windows 10 devices. The platform has always focused on customer feedback, inclusivity and accessibility. For example, over the years, the Windows Accessibility team has added closed captions, narrator, magnifier and custom text size to the operating system.

Throughout its evolution, Windows 10 has powered ground-breaking technologies and industry innovation. Mixed reality and HoloLens have used the platform to transform manufacturing and design, the Xbox series has driven innovation in gaming, and Surface Pro, Surface Book, Surface Hub 2S and Surface Neo have updated the everyday use of laptops and devices for daily users.

“We are humbled that customers are choosing and loving Windows 10, and there has never been a more important time for a secure, reliable platform that can empower people to create, educate and communicate wherever they are,” wrote Yusuf Mehdi, corporate vice president of modern life, search and devices at Microsoft, in the blog post.

Microsoft is expanding upon Windows’ innovation by moving it to the cloud, making it available through Azure and virtual machines.

“Reaching a billion people with Windows 10 is just the beginning,” wrote Mehdi. “We are inspired by the ways you use Windows 10, and we look forward to seeing how you continue to use these billion devices in new and exciting ways to power the world.”
