Sky Sports Germany has partnered with X.News to simplify and improve editorial tasks with intelligent workflows. The five-year partnership is part of Sky Sports News’s efforts to modernise its production chain.

X.News will provide solutions built on Microsoft technology to make it easy for sky Sports Germany to monitor different news sources, reduce unnecessary downloads and improve the process to transfer breaking news files between editors.

X.News provides a simple-to-use application that can be used on its own or deployed within the Avid Media Central platform, which allows editors to prepare scripts, edit video and audio assets, and transfer files directly into a live news rundown. Consequently, Sky is saving up to 80 per cent of storage usage, reducing journalists’ workloads and improving the quality of video and audio assets.

“We have been very satisfied with the initial configuration, support and subsequent adjustments to the user interface, data sources and application-programming-interface connections,” said Isam Romdhane, head of media and technical operations at Sky Deutschland. “Bug fixes were implemented as patches within a few days by the X.News development team and in very close cooperation with us.

“Cloud and web-based workflows help journalists with their storytelling. This investment will allow us to introduce multiple and scalable opportunities for significantly smarter and more efficient workflows.”

The partnership will require both companies to continue to collaborate and carry out customer-oriented work on the product.

“In the next step, we would like to look at the possibilities of using X.News also as an editorial collaboration tool for medium and long-term topic planning,” said Romdhane.
