Qatari telco to optimise mobile network performance with Ericsson software and Microsoft Cloud

Ooredoo will deploy AI and digital twin technologies to resolve network performance issues and provide customers with improved connectivity

Qatar telecommunications provider Ooredoo will deploy Ericsson’s cloud-native cognitive software – which mimics the functioning of the human brain – on the Microsoft Cloud to optimise 5G user experiences in Qatar and offer customers enhanced mobile broadband with high network speeds, low latency and larger data capacity.

“By harnessing the power of Microsoft cloud, telecom operators can transition to a more flexible and scalable model, drive down infrastructure cost, use artificial intelligence and machine learning to automate operations and create service differentiation,” said Masroor Hamid, telecom sector lead at Microsoft Qatar. “Through our hyperscale datacentre in Qatar, Ooredoo Qatar and Ericsson are enabling organisations across industries to rapidly innovate with new 5G services.”  

The solution from Ericsson uses digital twin technology and AI techniques such as deep reinforcement learning to analyse the radio access network, provide mobile network optimisation recommendations and resolve network performance issues.
