Microsoft makes Teams free for NHS staff
Collaboration platform will help key workers communicate quickly amid Covid-19 outbreak

Microsoft has made Teams free for NHS staff to use amid the Covid-19 outbreak. The collaboration platform will enable key healthcare workers to instant message and call one another to share advice and updates on patients, whatever their location. 

NHS Digital is rolling Teams out to all NHSmail users from 16-20 March. NHS organisations that are not using the NHSmail system will also receive free access to Teams. 

“Microsoft is fully committed to assisting the NHS at this incredibly challenging time,” said Cindy Rose, chief executive of Microsoft UK. “The use of Microsoft Teams will ensure the hardworking doctors, nurses and support staff across all NHS organisations have the collaboration tools they need to carry out their vital work. We are hugely appreciative of their ongoing efforts to tackle Covid-19 and will continue to provide support however best we can.”

The NHS has said that Teams will be protected and monitored within its Secure Boundary to reduce the risk of security threats.
