Dassault Systèmes acquires modelling and simulation company Modelon

Dassault Systèmes has completed the acquisition of the German entity of model-based systems developer Modelon.

A leader in ‘ready-to-experience’ content for systems modeling and simulation, Modelon’s technology can be of particular strategic benefit in the transportation and mobility industry.

With 50% of vehicle development costs set to come from electronics by 2030 and an anticipated 12 million electric vehicles globally by 2021, model-based systems engineering can play a key role as companies look to define, imagine and create virtual products and user experiences that mimic future ones in the real world.

With Modelon’s proprietary, multi-physics modular and reusable content, companies can move beyond digital mock up and deliver functional mock up. This significantly enhances the engineering and experimentation of connected vehicles.

Modelon’s portfolio delivers a unified picture of complex product subsystem interaction and performance. This covers both the design process and optimal system operations, helping to accelerate virtual product development and ensure the relevance and quality of transportation and mobility industry projects.

With Dymola technology from Dassault Systèmes alongside content and help from Modelon during high added value service projects, users can benefit from improved efficiency and develop game-changing technology for the next generation of electrified and hybrid cars.

“Since 2009, our industry-proven content implements the latest advances in Modelica tools and standards and, as a result, has enabled major industry milestones,” said Johannes Gerl, CEO, Modelon. “As part of Dassault Systèmes, we can expand the reach and impact of our assets to inspire electrified and ecologic product development that will be emblematic of the bright future of experience-based systems engineering.”

“We welcome Modelon’s team of experts and its industry-proven solutions in our mission to demonstrate the transformative power of 3D universes,” said Bernard Charlès, president and CEO of Dassault Systèmes. “With our 3DEXPERIENCE platform and strong and growing ecosystem of content partners, we now look to replicate Modelon success in other industries such as aerospace, energy, process and utilities, and construction.”
