Dassault Systemès debuts new Solidworks tool for mechanical design concepts

Dassault Systèmes is to launch its Solidworks Mechanical Conceptual solution on its 3DEXPERIENCE platform in April 2014.

Showcased at the Solidworks World event – which is taking place from 26-29 January 2014 – the solution enables users to simplify and streamline conceptual mechanical design concepts. Familiar social collaboration tools integrated in Dassault Systèmes’ interactive 3DEXPERIENCE cloud environment allows companies, customers and vendors to share ideas. This accelerates the design and decision making processes, enabling companies to launch products rapidly.

“As technologies and business models evolve, our users look to us to provide them with the newest tools to help them collaborate more widely and leverage 3D manufacturing and 3D printing to be more competitive and innovative,” said Bertrand Sicot, CEO, Solidworks, Dassault Systèmes. “With Solidworks Mechanical Conceptual, we’ve done that. For the first time ever, the entire manufacturing industry can benefit from a game-changing social platform that powers both the global Solidworks community, as well as a new generation of process experiences for the worldwide CATIA community.”

Solidworks Mechanical Conceptual has already been trialled by several customers over the past six months. Several of these customers shared their experiences with attendees at Solidworks World.

“I used the Concept Archive to investigate and test different ways of developing my idea at the same time,” said William MacLeod, senior engineer at Kennedy Hygiene. “With Solidworks Mechanical Conceptual, I was able to rapidly produce three or more concept configurations in the time it would take to produce one in conventional 3D computer aided design drawings. I can quickly iterate on a design and move the selected concept into Solidworks for final detailing.”
