Microsoft has revealed the new Surface Pro device, which combines the flexibility of a tablet with the practicality of a laptop device.

Rather than naming the new device the Surface Pro 5, Microsoft has dropped its numbering system with this latest release.

The new Surface Pro has up to 13 and a half hours of battery life and a 12.3 inch PixelSense touch display that supports the new Surface Pen.

This Surface Pen supports tilt for natural shading, and users can ink within applications across Windows 10 and Microsoft Office.

Users will also be able to take advantage of the Microsoft Whiteboard app, which allows for creativity and collaboration via simultaneous inking between multiple people.

“With Surface Pro we created a new category and challenged the status quo of the laptop,” said Panos Panay, corporate vice president, Microsoft Devices. “With every release since we have continued to push boundaries – redefining the ultimate laptop with Surface Book and making the classic laptop feel fresh again with Surface Laptop. With the introduction of the new Surface Pro we are once again advancing the category by delivering the versatility of a powerhouse laptop and a mobile creative studio in one thin, lightweight device.”

The new device is 8.5mm thin and weighs around 1.7 lbs. It is also powered by a 7th generation Intel Core processor.

The new Surface Pro will launch on 15 June in 25 global markets.
