Sydney, Australia is to become the home of the eighth Microsoft ScaleUp programme for technology startups.

Successful applicants into the programme gain access to expert advice, technology tools like Azure and Office 365 and Microsoft’s global network of customers.

Commenting on the announcement, Steven Worrall, managing director of Microsoft Australia said: “This is a resounding acknowledgement of both the quality and potential of Australian technology startups and entrepreneurs.

“It is also recognition of the important role governments across Australia continue to play in fostering a strong startup ecosystem and providing the infrastructure, such as the Sydney Startup Hub, to support and grow the next generation of Australian tech businesses.”

The ScaleUp programme helps fast-track each stage of the journey for a startup business. It offers entrepreneurs access to guidance that can help condense processes from years to weeks. The programme usually runs for four months and focuses on both business and technical development.

In the five years the Microsoft ScaleUp programmes have been running, approximately 730 companies have graduated from the programme and raised almost US$3 billion in venture capital with 48 exits – where the company is bought out or acquired by another company.
