Microsoft is bringing the power of OpenAI’s DALL-E deep learning model to Bing with the launch of the new Bing Image Creator. Users will now be able to generate images in Bing Chat and Microsoft Edge from verbal descriptions.

The move builds on Microsoft’s introduction of new artificial intelligence capabilities in Bing and Microsoft Edge to act as a ‘copilot for the web’. The most recent launch will serve as a ‘creative copilot’, said Yusuf Mehdi, corporate vice president and consumer chief marketing officer at Microsoft, in a blog post about the news.

“By typing in a description of an image, providing additional context like location or activity, and choosing an art style, Image Creator will generate an image from your own imagination,” he wrote.

Bing Image Creator will be fully integrated into the Bing chat experience and available in Microsoft Edge, which Mehdi claims will make Edge “the first and only browser with an integrated AI-powered image generator”.

With the launch, Microsoft is also making Stories and Knowledge Cards 2.0 available to all Bing users. Stories provide a new way to search and interact with content, while Knowledge Cards 2.0 offers an AI-powered infographic experience that “provides fun facts and key information at a glance”, wrote Mehdi. “With these updates and more coming, our goal is to deliver more immersive experiences in Bing and Edge that make finding answers and exploring the web more interesting, useful and fun.”

Bing Image Creator will begin to roll out to preview users on desktop and mobile from today. For those not in the new Bing preview, Image Creator is now available at bing.com/create in English.
