Sogrape has been producing wine since its foundation by Fernando Van Zeller Guedes in 1942. Today his grandson Fernando da Cunha Guedes is leading the company to a more modern future. Microsoft technology has enabled the family-owned firm to realise this.

Working with Microsoft partners Armis Group and DevScope, Sogrape standardised its productivity tools using Microsoft solutions. It built a global intranet portal called WINet for its 1,000 employees with SharePoint Online and deployed Office 365.

As part of its Office 365 implementation, the firm started using Microsoft Teams to enhance collaboration between its network of employees working from different locations. The solution enables groups from around the world to connect seamlessly through a single hub for all project-related communications and file sharing.

“Having a unique and global digital identity for everyone and using Teams as we are now, we can reach any employee in the Sogrape group and collaborate with them in a straightforward and secure way,” said Vitor Martins, business solutions and technology manager at Sogrape.

Armis Group ensured Sogrape transformed its collaboration infrastructure in a secure and compliant way. Under its guidance, the wine producer began using Azure Information Protection to assign levels of classification to each document and implemented an automated system to flag sensitive information in a bid to improve file sharing security. It is also using Azure AD Identity Protection to monitor activity, detect vulnerabilities and provide intelligent user protection through Risk-Based Conditional Access policies.

“With identity protection and multi-factor authentication, we’ve reached a level of protection that we didn’t have before,” said Martins.

Armis Group led workshops to help Sogrape’s staff understand the new solutions and ultimately ensure smooth adoption.

“Our growth is driven by a combination of family spirit and high-performing team culture,” said Martins. “From a technology perspective, Microsoft solutions are proving to be key components of that approach. They are fundamentally changing the way we work to be better, more efficient, and more secure.”
