RCS MediaGroup, a leading Italian multimedia publishing company, has adopted a comprehensive Microsoft technology solution suite as the company looks to modernise and unify its communications infrastructure and enable cloud-based collaboration.
The technology solution suite includes Microsoft Office 365, Windows Azure, Microsoft Lync 2013, Windows Server 2012 and Microsoft SharePoint 2013.
“With the benefits of a consistent approach for the end user, complete transparency for the delivery and the availability of Office applications, there will be more and more opportunities for our employees to continue to deliver new, innovative ideas,” said Umberto Tonelli, chief information officer of RCS MediaGroup. “For the IT department, this is a win-win situation; we are protecting our investments in technology, diminishing the risk of a massive deployment and finding new space to introduce innovation.”
A long-time Microsoft partner, RCS MediaGroup needed to modernise its existing infrastructure while maintaining a high level of security and ensuring the quality of its business data and systems.
Microsoft’s cloud solutions will provide RCS with security-enhanced cloud storage and a higher level of disaster preparation. The suite’s agile project management offerings will benefit RCS’ mobile, distributed workforce, which needs to manage more than 200 projects within its Digital Product Development Department.
Using Windows apps and storage held in the cloud, the company’s sales agents will be able to access RCS’ ‘new books catalogue’ while on the go and present it interactively with customers. Customers will be able to review a catalogue using a web interface and place additional orders. The sales representative’s communication with the rest of team is also improved thanks to Office 365 and Lync.
RCS’ marketing teams are also using a collaborative environment based on Office 365, allowing them to invite selected customers to focus groups where they can discuss and vote on RCS’ new digital products that are being lined up for release.
Thanks to a combination of Office 365 cloud environment and on-premises SharePoint 2013, the company is also transforming its intranet from a top-down communications tool to an interactive self-service feature for virtual desk. This virtual desk provides employees with the necessary tools to support their business activities, allow collaboration across network, search the enterprise knowledge base, access their personal productivity tools, and manage their personal information and files.
Using Lync, employees located in Italy can easily connect with RCS representatives around the world, including at the company’s bases in the US, Spain, Mexico and China, as well as with vendors and partners.
