Microsoft has acquired Datazen Software, a provider of mobile business intelligence (BI) and data visualisation solutions for Windows, iOS and Android devices.
Datazen technology and solutions will complement Microsoft Power BI, a cloud-based business analytics service, and provide customers with a mobile BI solution that can be implemented on-premises and optimised for use with Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services.
Customers with SQL Server Enterprise Edition v8 or upwards and Software Assurance can download the Datazen Server software at no additional cost. This will enable millions of people around the world to use native mobile apps to visualise and interact with data via their mobile devices.
“Companies around the world need simpler ways to find data insights they can use to improve their business and with the pervasive use of mobile devices at work, mobile BI is at a tipping point,” said Kamal Hathi, partner director of Cloud and Enterprise at Microsoft, in a blog post. ”Datazen is a mobile-first company at the forefront of this wave and enterprise customers around the globe use its technology.”
Existing Datazen customers and partners will still be able to access the entire Datazen stack – including server, publisher and all mobile clients – in their current format.
“Datazen is positioned as a mobile BI solution for customers who need a solution that is implemented on-premises,” said Miljan Braticevic, CEO of Datazen, in a blog post. “As such, it will complement Power BI, Microsoft’s cloud-based business analytics service. Our team will continue to develop and evolve the product. We have an exciting roadmap and are really looking forward to bringing new features to market.”
