With Microsoft set to reveal its new Surface mini tablet next week, Dan Laycock, senior manager of Microsoft Surface, has confirmed that a live webcast of the event will be available on the Microsoft News Center.
OnWindows reported last week that the company sent out an invitation to selected members of the press with the strap line ‘Join us for a small gathering’ ahead of the event, which is scheduled to take place on 20 May in New York, US.
Laycock posted on the Microsoft Surface blog about the event, which will begin at 8am PST.
As with the Surface Pro, it is likely that the Surface Mini will have a Wacom digitiser and pen to enable easier note taking, potentially opening up opportunities for the education sector.
No specifications for the new release have been released as of yet, but it is rumoured the Surface Mini will run on the Windows RT operating system.
Interestingly, the biggest indication yet that the Surface Mini will be revealed has come from Amazon, where accessories made by wholesaler Vostrostone designed specifically for the Microsoft Surface Mini have appeared. These products have a release date of 18 May.
