Microsoft launches new Transparency Center in Brasília

Microsoft has launched its first Transparency Center in Latin America, with the aim of promoting trusted computing and security in the region’s public sector.

Located in Brasília, Brazil, the new facility will serve governments in a number of Latin American countries, including Argentina, Chile, Colombia and Mexico.

Microsoft’s global Transparency Centers form a major part of its Government Security Program (GSP), which 40 countries participate in globally. GSP allows government agencies to review source code for Microsoft products to attest their security and reliability.

Governments can access important cybersecurity information from Microsoft programs, based around intelligence, malware protection and security. This can help with their efforts to counter cybercrime.

“Our Microsoft Transparency Center in Brazil will serve the wider Latin America and Caribbean countries, and advances our responsibility and commitment to drive transparency, privacy and control, security and compliance for our technologies,” said Toni Townes-Whitley, corporate vice-president, Worldwide Public Sector, Microsoft. “It is part of the Microsoft Government Security Program, that aims to collaborate to protect citizens, public services and national infrastructure from cybercrime threats and to accomplish a key role to protect, detect and respond to digital threats.”

Microsoft’s GSP combines a number of important sources of cybersecurity-related information, which were previously delivered through the Cyber Threat Intelligence Program, the Security Cooperation Program, the Microsoft Malware Protection Center, and the Microsoft Security Response Center.

“As governments, enterprises and citizens in the region embrace digital transformation, and in the face of rising cyberattack sophistication, cybersecurity is mission-critical,” said Cesar Cernuda, president for Microsoft Latin America. “Our mission is to empower every user and organisation on the planet to achieve more and in order to do these users must trust the technology they use. Microsoft is committed to providing a trusted cloud and our unique threat intelligence innovations and trusted cloud ecosystem offers powerful protection against security threats. We also empower governments to investigate, disrupt and prosecute global cybercriminal networks.
