Mitsubishi to acquire ICONICS to strengthen software portfolio

In a bid to strengthen its software portfolio and access the manufacturing and building automation markets, Mitsubishi Electric will acquire solution provider ICONICS. 

ICONICS currently provides advanced software products for supervisory control and data acquisition, human-machine interface, the internet of things (IoT), mobile, analytics and cloud applications. Using these, Mitsubishi will set up a Software Center of Excellence in Foxborough, Massachusetts. 

“We are most excited about the recent acquisition of ICONICS so that Mitsubishi can accelerate its global software strategy as software is increasingly important in factory automation business,” said Yoshikazu Miyata, executive officer and group president of Factory Automation Systems at Mitsubishi.  “Our vision is to continuously invest in the field of IoT and software.”

Already working in automation, Mitsubishi’s e-F@ctory concept uses it to improve efficiency, reduce costs and increase productivity. The firm has also launched a range of software products based on its this concept to enhance solutions for edge and cloud computing. 

ICONICS’ expertise in developing software products for various business sectors and advanced technology will enable Mitsubishi to go further. 

“With the addition of ICONICS software, product development and technology capabilities this will allow Mitsubishi to accelerate its e-F@ctory and edge computing solutions,” said Satoshi Takeda, senior deputy general manager of Nagoya Works at Mitsubishi Electric.
