NRF 2016: Microsoft reveals demo of new Windows 10 mobile workstation

Microsoft has unveiled a demo of a Windows 10 mobile workstation at this week’s National Retail Federation Big Show in New York City.

The new point of sale (POS) solution brings together the power of Windows 10, including devices and the internet of things, and has been designed to help turn traditional workstations into interactive mobile experiences.

The Windows 10 mobile workstation offers more secure and automatic login thanks to Windows Hello. This means the device unlocks when it recognises the face of the retail associate that needs to use it.

The new solution also enables retail associates to jump from mobile touch-tablet mode to traditional desktop mode seamlessly. Sales staff can ‘dock’ to a larger screen and show products to customers in greater detail.

The device can also dock to peripheral stations to access receipt printers, electronic article surveillance deactivators, flatbed scanners and scales.
