Update lets businesses run Dynamics AX in hybrid cloud environments

Microsoft has introduced a new update to Microsoft Dynamics AX to enable businesses to combine all the benefits of the enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution with Microsoft Azure in a full end-to-end cloud solution. The announcement was made by Microsoft Business Solutions executive vice president Kirill Tatarinov during the Convergence 2014 Europe keynote.

The update, which will be available to customers in December 2014, allows companies to design, develop, test and deploy Dynamics AX on premise or in the Microsoft cloud.

Microsoft is also adding a new, modern point-of-sale client for Windows tablets and phones in Dynamics AX, giving in-store sales associates the ability to access product and customer information at their fingertips to deliver great shopping experiences. Plus, businesses can take advantage of capabilities that streamline warehouse and transportation operations to fulfil orders quickly and flexibly.

During his keynote, Tatarinov featured customers, including City of Barcelona, Ingram Micro, J&J Foods, Nagra, Onduline and the Spanish Association Against Cancer that are differentiating themselves with Microsoft Dynamics solutions through the power of the Microsoft cloud.

“To better engage with their customers, businesses are looking to the cloud for greater collaboration and the right insights to help them be more productive,” Tatarinov said. “Microsoft is reimagining and reinventing productivity by harnessing the power of the cloud through a flexible platform in Azure, a cloud productivity suite in Office 365, and customer-centric business applications delivered through Microsoft Dynamics solutions that are helping organisations transform the way they engage with customers and run their business.”

This update follows closely on the heels of several enhancements Microsoft unveiled last month to its enterprise-grade, hybrid cloud platform, as well as updates to Office 365, including unlimited storage with OneDrive.
