Microsoft SharePoint is today used by over 190 million people and 200,000 organisations worldwide, including high street retailer Marks & Spencer, airline Qantas and tyre maker Goodyear.

The platform, which enables users to share and manage content easily to ensure more productive collaboration, also contains search functions and ways to discover insights, all the while simplifying the notification and approval processes in complex workflows.

The Microsoft News Centre has recently outlined some top tips so that users can get the most from the solution:

Sites: Use the ‘Search’ function to find the sites, people or files you are looking for. The ‘Following’ list shows you those sites that you follow, while the ‘Featured content’ shows highlights from sites you visit or from those that Microsoft thinks might be relevant to you.

Files: ‘Files On-Demand’ give you access to all your files in SharePoint through OneDrive, without needing to download them all.

Mobile SharePoint Access: This app available from most app stores enables you to reach intranet content on your phone.

Creating: You can create a site on the SharePoint homepage for whatever your task. You can then add a document library for all related files. You can also create new pages and add web parts such as text, images, videos and more.

Sharing files: By adding or uploading files to SharePoint you can make them available to your team, with added permission for specific access. You can also share files by copying the SharePoint link into other media, such as email. There’s also a function available for syncing SharePoint and OneDrive files so you can access them even when you’re offline.

Working with files: From the SharePoint homepage you can view files, edit them online or on the app, share them, see their recent activity from other team members, see with whom they are being shared and more.
