85 REPORT The rise of the high-performance workplace After several years of grappling with the balance between traditional and remote working arrangements, enterprises are now focusing on optimising workspaces to the requirements of their people. “The focus has shifted away from designing physical spaces primarily for efficiency metrics like square feet per employee,” said Alexander Michael, vice president of information and communications technology at Frost & Sullivan, in a new white paper created in collaboration with Q-SYS. “New metrics and design principles place more emphasis on how human experience affects performance and productivity.” According to the paper, 46 per cent of organisations are currently in the process of modernising their office technology, and 50 per cent are starting to offer more in-office perks. These modernised spaces are being referred to as high-performance workplaces, an evolution of the concept of high-impact spaces that was first explored by Q-SYS and Frost & Sullivan in 2022. High-impact spaces focus on achieving outcomes driven by intelligent AV capabilities, rather than room size. Meanwhile, highperformance workplaces harness the full potential of data generated within the work environment to increase productivity and provide a workspace experience that can evolve with the business. “In a high-performance workplace, technology enhances the user experience seamlessly in the background,” said Michael. “Spaces become multipurpose and reconfigurable, not just through divisible rooms and movable furniture, but by transforming them into welcoming, experiential environments.” Frost & Sullivan’s research suggests that 80 per cent of medium to large organisations will be influenced by the high-performance trend within the next five years and will therefore benefit from a unified full stack AV platform that connects the myriad systems and technologies within the built environment. For instance, the Q-SYS full stack AV platform enables organisations to harness real-time data to shape the workplace experience. It connects systems and technologies within the environment to help decision-makers understand their physical space requirements better. The real-time data can trigger automated actions based on environmental factors such as carbon dioxide levels, temperature and lighting to better support employees. “Investing in a full stack AV platform significantly boosts the potential of a highperformance workplace, creating a futureflexible asset in a more effective and resilient operational environment,” said Michael.
