143 Neural Concept’s platform uses engineering-specific AI to generate designs, predict performance and optimise products constraints all matter when you are designing a product that ultimately has to work.” Neural Concept’s purpose-built models can evaluate potential designs against requirements such as performance, materials and cost. Predictions that might traditionally require hours or days can be delivered in seconds or milliseconds, allowing engineers to assess hundreds or thousands of alternatives before committing to detailed simulation or physical testing. The impact can be significant. One automotive manufacturer increased its daily design evaluations from approximately 50 to 1,500. Neural Concept also reports that a leading aerospace manufacturer accelerated pressure-field predictions from around one hour to 30 milliseconds, while car manufacturer Subaru reduced die-face analysis from three hours to two minutes. The objective, however, is not to remove engineers from the process. Neural Concept sees AI as a tool for giving specialists more time for judgement and creativity, while retaining human accountability for decisions. “The future is not autonomous engineering without engineers,” says von Tschammer. “We see AI taking on more of the exploration and repetitive workflow, while engineers remain responsible for judgment, trade-offs and final design decisions.” The approach can also turn historical engineering knowledge into a reusable asset. Data, previous decisions and expertise can be encoded into workflows that improve as more design cycles are completed. “One of the biggest opportunities is turning decades of engineering knowledge into intelligence that teams can reuse,” says von Tschammer. “Each project then contributes to the organisation’s ability to design the next product faster and with greater confidence.” By combining Neural Concept’s engineering-specific AI with Microsoft Azure, the companies are helping manufacturers move towards AI-native product development, where engineering data, simulation and AI work together to help teams explore, evaluate and improve products earlier in the development process.
