Microsoft introduces new privacy tools ahead of Data Privacy Day

Windows Insiders will receive an early preview of the Windows Diagnostic Data Viewer included in the next release of Windows.

In a recent blog post, Marisa Rogers, privacy officer at Windows and Devices Group, Microsoft, discusses the introduction of new privacy tools ahead of Data Privacy Day on 28 January 2018.

The Microsoft Privacy Dashboard will enable users to manage more data associated with their Microsoft account.

The Windows Diagnostic Data Viewer allows users to view and search their diagnostic data.

The diagnostic data presented in the menu includes common data, such as the operating system’s name, device connectivity and configuration including device properties and product and service performance data that shows overall device health.

Other forms of diagnostic data include the product and service usage data which provides details about the usage of the device and software setup and inventory including installed applications and install history.

Microsoft have updated the privacy dashboard with a new activity history page which provides a clear way to navigate the data that is saved within the Microsoft account.

Over the next few months Microsoft will introduce additional features which will allow users to view and manage media consumption data, export any data on their dashboard and delete specific items allowing for greater individual control.

“Your data privacy will continue to be a priority towards making Windows 10 the best and most secure experience,” said Rogers. “From improving in-product control, transparency and information about your privacy, while providing a complete list of the diagnostic data collected at the Basic level, among others, to launching the Microsoft Privacy Dashboard and the enhancements we’ve made since then, we want you to be able to easily see and manage your activity data online across multiple Microsoft services.”
