Equipment manufacturer Liebherr has teamed up with Microsoft to create a new smart refrigerator prototype, which will be presented to the public at this week’s Hannover Messe event.
Pharmaceutical companies require reliable refrigeration technologies to help with the storage of sensitive substances and products, including medicines, vaccines and insulin. Temperatures within refrigerators need to be precisely maintained, and the development of such connectivity solutions such as that created by Liebherr and Microsoft are presenting new monitoring and maintenance possibilities.
The prototype enables customers in the pharmaceutical industry to capitalise on the power of the internet of things (IoT) and allows for remote monitoring and predictive maintenance.
The solution features a communication module based on the Windows 10 IoT Core, which analyses data using the Microsoft Azure cloud platform. This allows users to check a machine’s status and data at any time.
Thanks to machine learning and Azure Stream Analytics, any changes in refrigeration performance can be recognised at an early stage. Before damage can be done, the system creates a service ticket in Microsoft Dynamics CRM, and a technician can then attend to the problem.
Furthermore, the smart refrigerator’s Windows 10 IoT Core operating system is integrated with the communication module, allowing for the appliance to be updated remotely.
Microsoft and Liebherr will be presenting the refrigerator prototype during the course of this week’s Hannover Messe event.
