European engineering firm Assystem has joined with Dassault Systèmes to improve the management and industrial performance of complex engineering projects in the nuclear sector.
Assystem’s Energy and Infrastructure division will deploy Dassault Systèmes’ 3DEXPERIENCE platform to build a new information system for its engineering missions on nuclear facilities, to support engineering data management, configuration management, procurement, programme management and resourcing capabilities.
Nuclear power plants and other large assets have a lifecycle of about 50 years, making safety, compliance and delivery critical. Owners and operators face design, construction, operations and maintenance challenges due to limited resources, tight margins, high operational risk, and complex stakeholder communication, among other factors. The 3DEXPERIENCE platform will help Assystem to connect all stakeholders, trace data and ensure compliance throughout the engineering phase.
“Thanks to our 50 years of experience in nuclear, we have acquired a first-hand understanding of the operational challenges and needs of operators of nuclear facilities,” said Stéphane Aubarbier, CEO of Assystem’s Energy and Infrastructure division. “Given our large presence in the automotive and aerospace industries, we also have in-depth understanding of the use of engineering digital tools in the industry. Assystem is therefore ideally placed to capitalise on its dual experience in nuclear and digital technologies for the benefit of its clients.”
Dassault Systèmes will use the partnership to develop future industry solution experiences for the nuclear sector.
“As the demand for energy increases, so does pressure to optimise the use of global resources, and this can only be achieved through greater scientific and engineering innovation,” said Thomas Grand, vice president of Energy, Process and Utilities Industry at Dassault Systèmes. “Together with Assystem and its engineering expertise, the 3DEXPERIENCE platform can support the full development of equipment and plants by enabling the virtual integration of their entire lifecycle requirements from the outset, improving safety, efficiency, profitability and sustainability.”
Assystem is already using the 3DEXPERIENCE platform to develop and deliver personalised aircraft cabins, and or all of its engineering activities in the UK. The solution is also helping with a waste management project for the French Atomic Energy Commission and for the research project ITER.
