Barracuda launches Cloud App Protection for web security

IT security provider Barracuda Networks has launched its Cloud Application Protection (CAP) platform to enhance web application security – the security surrounding websites, web applications and web services such as application programming interfaces. It features a Microsoft Azure-based web application firewall (WAF)-as-a-service, which is available in the Azure marketplace, to bring security to a broader market.

Barracuda has made its WAF-as-a-service feature easy to deploy and manage through the CAP platform to help enterprise customers secure their cloud and on-premises applications. The feature uses Microsoft Azure to provide local availability across all 54 Azure regions. It retains the customisation and control of Barracuda’s WAF but can be deployed as a service from the Azure Marketplace to protect the company’s web-facing application.

The platform also includes application vulnerability scanning and remediation, advanced bot protection, Distributed Denial of Service protection, and application programming interface security.

“Organisations need application security that’s both easy to manage and flexible enough to protect applications wherever they are deployed,” said Tim Jefferson, a senior vice president at Barracuda Networks. “Barracuda CAP platform and WAF-as-a-service hosted on the public cloud make that possible for a broader market.”

At Microsoft Ignite this week, Barracuda will also highlight its CloudGen Firewall with Microsoft Virtual WAN support. Among other features, the Barracuda CloudGen Firewall offers multi-link support to give customers who are looking to migrate to Office 365 the option of using Azure to reduce latency for remote users.

“Barracuda has experience in security, and they understand how to work with partners and customers in our ecosystem,” said Ann Johnson, corporate vice president of cybersecurity solutions at Microsoft. “We look forward to continuing to work with Barracuda to help organisations operate in the cloud securely.”
