Dell has debuted the Dell Appliance for Wyse – vWorkspace desktop virtualisation appliance this week at Microsoft Ignite.
The Dell Appliance for Wyse is designed to help workers access virtual desktops and Windows applications from a variety of form factors including Wyse thin clients and Chrome OS devices. This means that they can use applications such as Excel and PowerPoint from nearly any HTML5 browser-capable device, without the need for any client software installation on the endpoint.
The solution takes advantage of Dell Wyse vWorkspace desktop virtualisation software that is designed to provide organisations of all sizes with a cost-effective VDI solution that can be managed without specialised staff or consultants.
Using the Dell Quickstart automation tool, Dell has said that organisations can reduce the number of tasks to configure and install desktop virtualisation by more than 90% compared to a manual deployment.
The company has highlighted schools as particular beneficiaries of the new solution, explaining that students and teachers can experience a more dynamic learning environment that includes access to thousands of Windows apps, while the management burdens for IT administrators is sharply reduced.
This week at Ignite, Dell is also taking the opportunity to showcase its Migration Manager for Enterprise Social solution, which makes it easier for businesses to manage multiple enterprise social platforms across their organisation.
The first release supports the migration of content between Yammer and Jive.
