New research shows that 61% of businesses use the technology, but only 9% are seeing results
Enterprises are struggling to realise the benefits of emerging technologies such as the internet of things (IoT), according to the 2019 Global CIO Survey from Logicalis.
The Emerging Technologies: From Complexities to Continuity report, which questioned 888 chief information officers from around the globe, found that 61% of businesses are now using IoT solutions but only 9% believe their organisation is seeing the results of them.
IoT technologies are becoming more mainstream among enterprises, as their usage has increased by 33% since last year’s survey. However, 44% of respondents believe their organisation is not very successful at realising the advantages of smart technologies like artificial intelligence and IoT in some business areas. Those that are seeing the most success are IT (35%), marketing and sales (29%), and information security and compliance (28%).
“It’s great to see emerging technologies such as AI and IoT coming to the mainstream,” said Mark Rogers, CEO at Logicalis. “Despite the growth in the use of AI, businesses are still unsure of the business benefits of the technology. Navigating the complex landscape of these technologies can be overwhelming and difficult to manage for CIOs. The key to overcoming this is to create key performance indicators that narrow the focus and encourage company-wide participation. Working with a third-party can also help organisations with their digital transformation roadmaps and enable them to make the best use of the latest technologies.”
