First Direct has launched a Windows Phone 8 version of its Banking on the Go mobile app. The move comes as mobile usage of First Direct customers continues to increase. The organisation has confirmed that in March 2014, nearly 50% of all visits to First Direct ’s website came from a mobile device, which is a significant increase from March 2013 (30%). First Direct has said that if this trend were to continue, mobile visits would very quickly overtake desktop usage among the direct bank’s customers.
First Direct joins many other leading banks that offer their mobile banking apps on the Windows platform, including Barclays, which launched its Barclays Mobile Banking app on Windows Phone 8 this year.
Sean Barton, head of digital at First Direct commented: “We’re always striving to improve our mobile offering as we know that this is fast becoming our customers’ channel of choice. It’s important that we give our customers the opportunity to bank with us using whichever method they prefer, regardless of the mobile device they’ve chosen.”
