Introducing Microsoft HoloLens Development Edition

At a press event in New York, Microsoft has unveiled the HoloLens Development Edition, a technology solution that is designed to enable businesses to be at forefront of holographic computing by transforming the way they communicate, create, collaborate and explore.

The technology is available to selected developers in the US who are participants of the Windows Insider programme. Starting in January, accepted applicants will be invited to pre-order the Development Edition. Then, the first devices will ship in the first quarter of 2016.

“With Microsoft HoloLens, holograms are no longer just constructs for sci-fi writers,” said Simon Floyd, Microsoft’s director of business development and strategy, product lifecycle management solutions, in a blog post. “HoloLens is the first fully untethered, see-through holographic computer.

“It enables high-definition holograms to come to life in your world, seamlessly integrating with your physical places, spaces, and things. We call this experience mixed reality. With HoloLens, there isn’t a screen to touch or a mouse to click. It understands your movements, vision, and voice, enabling you to interact with content and information in the most natural way possible.

“With the ability to interact with three-dimensional holograms in the real world, designers and manufacturers have an exciting new way to work.”
