Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella makes senior leadership changes

New Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has announced a number of senior leadership changes within the company in an e-mail to all employees.

Tony Bates, former Skype CEO and head of the Business Development and Evangelism team for the past eight months, is leaving the company.

Eric Rudder will serve as interim leader responsible for Business Development and Evangelism, while continuing in his current role.

Tami Reller, who has been serving as executive vice president of Marketing since the company’s reorganisation in July 2013, is also leaving.

Chris Capossela will take on this role as executive vice president and chief marketing officer, reporting directly to Nadella.

According to the e-mail, this is because Microsoft needs a single leader to run marketing for the company.

Mark Penn has been appointed to the newly created role of executive vice president, chief strategy officer.

Penn has moved from Microsoft’s Advertising and Online division where he created the Scroggled campaign, aimed at highlighting Google’s privacy issues.

Before joining Microsoft in 2012 he was an aid to both Bill and Hilary Clinton.
