Microsoft makes series of updates to Office 365 suite

Microsoft has revealed a new set of updates to the various solutions that comprise the Office 365 suite.

Following last month’s announcement that Skype for Business would be more deeply integrated into Word and PowerPoint for Windows desktop, commercial customers can now integrate real-time chat into Office Online. Skype for Business chat is also being rolled out within Outlook on the web.

For Outlook, a number of updates will be made over the coming month, including watch face support for Outlook for Android Wear, with wearers able to see their schedule overlaid on the dial and get details of upcoming events. Users can also quickly access their email and see many new messages they have with a quick glance at the watch, as well as being able to personalise the watch’s appearance to suit their mood.

Microsoft is now also offering OneDrive and Skype for Business integration in Outlook for iOS and Android, making it easier for users to collaborate in Outlook and join Skype Meetings. Furthermore, files attached to a Skype Meeting request in Outlook 2016 or Outlook on the web now automatically load into the Skype Meeting document bin as soon as participants join.

Thanks to new updates to SharePoint, it is now simpler and more powerful to share files and collaborate from any device, while OneDrive for iPhone and iPad make it easy to seamlessly share, edit and take offline and files stored in SharePoint document libraries, Office 365 groups and OneDrive for Business.

On the web, users can copy files to a SharePoint team site or Office 365 group from OneDrive for Business, while the new Discover view in both the web and OneDrive for Android brings files to the user and minimise search time through recommendations.

SharePoint is also being updated to make your intranet more mobile, intelligent and personalised, with the SharePoint mobile app providing full-fidelity, on-the-go access to your company content, sites and apps. This will be available on iOS by the end of June and on Android and Windows later this year.
