Microsoft merges .NET developer platform with Xamarin ecoystem

Microsoft has merged its .NET platform with Xamarin’s ecoystem to provide developers with the functionality they need to build and deliver fully native cross-platform mobile app experiences to all major devices, including Windows, iOS and Android.

Members of Microsoft’s Visual Studio Community now have free access to Xamarin’s capabilities and Xamarin Studio for OS X, while Visual Studio Enterprise subscribers can access Xamarin’s advanced enterprise capabilities at no additional cost.

Microsoft will also open source the Xamarin SDK, including its runtime, libraries and command line tools, as part of the .NET Foundation in the coming months.
