Microsoft releases Surface 2 with 4G connectivity in the UK

The Surface 2 4G is now available to buy in the UK for £539 from Currys, PC World or Microsoft's online store.

This is compared to the US$639 price tag that the device is retailing at in the US.

This version is ten grams heavier than without 4G connectivity, has a micro-SIM card slot and is only available in a 64GB configuration.

The Surface 2 4G runs on the NVIDIA Tegra 4 processor, has a 1080p ClearType HD Display, a 3.5 megapixel camera on the front and a five megapixel camera on the back. The cameras record video in 1080p.

The device has two kickstand positions, a microSDXC card reader that allows users to add up to 64GB of extra storage, a full-size USB 3.0 port and Bluetooth 4.0.

It runs the Windows 8.1 RT operating system, which is a cut down version of the full version of Windows 8.1.

It also has free Skype calls for a year and 200GB of Onedrive cloud storage.

Microsoft is also expected to unveil Surface mini tablets at a press event on 20 May.
