Microsoft Surface Pro 3 continues to gain traction in the business world

The Lotus F1 Team has become one of the latest customers to deploy Microsoft Surface Pro 3 across its organisation.

Joining the likes of BMW, Coca Cola, Louis Vuitton, University of Pittsburg Medical Center, Avanade and Cincinnati Country Day School as Surface customers, the Lotus F1 Team had been piloting previous versions of the Surface Pro line and recently made the commitment to move forward with Surface Pro 3 as a laptop replacement option.

“For me, one of the most important factors of owning a tablet in the enterprise is device consolidation,” said Michael Taylor, director of Information Technology and Information Systems at Lotus F1 Team, explaining what factors were significant in making this decision. “Although a techy at heart and with a passion for playing with new devices, when I put my enterprise IT leader hat on, device consolidation is key, I want to be able to give my users the same levels of engagement and experience they currently have while saving a device or two along the way.”

Taylor has also highlighted how easy it is to work on Surface Pro 3 when he’s travelling, claiming that the new kick stand “came into its own” when working in the cramped confines of the aeroplane. “Working in the fast paced world of F1, international travel is an occupational hazard, and being able to work in multiple locations including planes, trains and automobiles comes as standard,” he said. “The Surface Pro 3 achieves this objective with ease.”

Explaining why Surface is proving popular with businesses today, Brian Hall, general manager of Surface, explained: “Most businesses are buying Surface when their employees need a laptop and want to avoid having to buy and carry an iPad too. Surface Pro 3 serves as a full-powered business PC and a tablet, making for happy employees as well as happy CIOs and CFOs. One device means less to buy, deploy, manage and secure. Surface Pro 3 is for work.”

To encourage more businesses to adopt the laptop replacement tablet, Microsoft has made a number of recent announcements. The first is that Surface Pro 3 can be upgraded to run Windows 10 when it becomes available.

The second is that Surface Pro 3 has recently qualified for FAA and EASA authorisation, as well as the US Environmental Protection Agency’s Energy Star programme for computers.

And finally, to make it faster and more cost effective for business customers to deploy Surface Pro 3, Microsoft is introducing a limited-time Surface Laptop Replacement Bundle with its reseller partners, which provides up to US$150 off a Surface Pro 3, Type Cover and Docking Station when purchased together.
