Microsoft is to open a new flagship store at 677 Fifth Avenue in New York City, US.
Writing in a blog post, David Porter, corporate vice president of worldwide retail stores at Microsoft, indicated that the store will offer various Microsoft products – such as Surface Pro 3 and Windows Phones – as well as accessories and experts to provide free technical help to customers. As the company’s first flagship store, Porter also said that it would serve as the ‘centrepiece of the Microsoft store experience’.
“Our Fifth Avenue location will be much more than just a Microsoft Store,” said Porter. “In addition to retail, there will be experiential space for Microsoft as a company to further engage with our customers and partners in new and innovative ways. This is an important milestone for Microsoft overall, our stores team and millions of our current customers, as well as the millions to come.”
Since Microsoft opened its first retail store in Scottsdale, Arizona, on 22 October 2009, the company has introduced 104 Microsoft retail stores in physical locations in the US, Canada and Puerto Rico, as well as online stores in 189 countries. Now 80% of Americans are within 20 miles of a Microsoft store, while the company aims to expand its physical presence through store-in-store locations in China.
“Microsoft Stores will play a key role in our strategy as we continue to deliver the outstanding choice, value and service for customers everywhere,” said Porter. “While we build out the Fifth Avenue location, we will continue to open more stores – in fact, we’re opening ten more locations later this year. But our New York flagship store – five years in the making – will be worth the wait.”
