Sibos 2014 event preview from Sue Foley at peterevans

Taking place at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center in the US from 29 September to 2 October, Sibos will bring together key figures from financial institutions, market infrastructures and technology vendors to showcase the new technologies and strategies that will shape the financial services industry. Delegates will explore issues including regulatory compliance, cryptocurrencies and payments platforms.

What makes Sibos an important event in the industry and why are you attending?
Sibos is one of the largest events in the financial services industry and is very highly regarded among professionals. Since attending our first Sibos conference in 2005, we’ve used the event to showcase our relatively small company with the larger industry players and gain an insight into the issues challenging the financial services, insurance and capital markets. We’ve also been able to meet with industry leaders and form mutually beneficial relationships with journalists.

What will you be showcasing?
We will be demonstrating our xanite suite of products. For the second consecutive year, our parent company Equiniti will join us as stand partners to showcase its International Payments system

What are you most looking forward to?
While our primary focus is the business side of Sibos, we are very interested in some of the new developments this year, particularly Sibos University. At peterevans, we believe it is important to bridge the gap between academia and the financial industry, so we have invested heavily in building relationships with universities. It has enabled us to recruit graduates and offer summer placements, as well as to award a prize to the highest achieving second-year Computer Science student at one UK university. Our managing director, Dr Michael Foley, has also been invited to join the external advisory board of one of our partner universities. In addition, we will also be supporting the new Art@Sibos initiative, which aims to bring art to the Sibos exhibition floor and present delegates with a creative interpretation of industry issues. Each year, we use our stand to showcase the work of art graduates and local artists.

What do you think will be a key trend at the event?
Mobile solutions and regulatory compliance will be two of the key trends at this year’s Sibos event, particularly in response to the Financial Services Authority’s Retail Distribution Review programme.
