Global telecommunications company Telefónica has entered into a joint initiative with Microsoft to deliver TV content over the internet to Windows Phone devices.
Telefónica’s Movistar TV Go service for Windows Phone 8.1 will enable Telefónica users to enjoy their favourite TV content on the go.
Thanks to integration with Cortana, users will be able to use voice commands to search for and play content.
The new service, which was unveiled at Mobile World Congress, will be available for Windows Phone users shortly after the event, launching first in Spain, followed by other Latin American countries where Telefónica offers pay-TV services.
The service will be tested in a Spanish language beta version with Cortana – the first time that Cortana for Spanish language is integrated in a worldwide commercial service.
“Rather than just performing voice-activated commands, Cortana continually learns about each user and becomes increasingly personalised, with the ultimate goal of proactively performing the right tasks at the right time,” said Steven Guggenheimer, corporate VP and chief evangelist of the Microsoft Developer Experience and Evangelism group. “Telefónica’s support is helping us to speed up this process.”
