Canard uses Microsoft technology to enhance airport runway safety
Spanish company adopts Azure and SharePoint to support use of drones to monitor airport runways

Microsoft technology is being harnessed to support the use of drones to ensure safety on airport runways.

Based in Spain, Canard delivers drones – unmanned aerial vehicles – to airports to allow them calibrate the status of runway lights.

Ensuring that runway lights are functioning as necessary helps ensure airline pilots can land their planes safely and accurately. Using drone technology for this task can help save significant time and money.

Canard has adopted several Microsoft technologies to support its business operations. The company is using the Microsoft Azure cloud platform, as well as SharePoint and Power BI tools and Surface tablets. This is helping the company offer a better service and improve its processes.

“We use Azure, SharePoint, and Microsoft Surface to capture the data coming from the drones and create information for our customers,” said Jorge Gómez, founder and CEO of Canard.

Gomez adds that thanks to this technology, the company has reduced both calibration times and costs by around 25%.

“The use of Azure is really simple and can be directly integrated into our system, which has increased usability,” said Juan Díaz, CTO of Canard. “We have found a solution suitable to our needs, increasing portability and reducing by half the time of preparation of the mission. In short, we have minimised the problems of integration, achieving a more reliable solution. On the other hand, Surface has allowed us to lighten and give more power, proving the engineer a solution in the environment of operations – airports-runways, that is very manageable. This was precisely what we were looking for: confidence, reliability, performance and support.”
