Kouvola will use a mobile app to make public transport use simpler and more attractive to citizens
The Finnish city of Kouvola is using PayiQ to develop mobile ticketing for its buses. It will use a mobile app to make public transport use simpler and more attractive to citizens.
Users can purchase a bus ticket through a mobile app which they show to the driver when boarding the bus. Tickets will be available for both children (aged 7-16) and adults.
“Kouvola is developing public transport services and the aim is to extensively develop the city’s public transport operations in the coming years,” said Antti Pakkanen, public transport coordinator for the city of Kouvola. “Mobile ticketing makes traveling with buses not only easier but also more attractive. Kouvola’s goal is to increase the number of passengers and the launch of a new ticket product is a part of this goal.”
The mobile app, called Kouvolan joukkoliikenne, supports the most common payment methods, including bank and credit cards, MobilePay, Apple Pay and Masterpass. It can be downloaded for free from Google Play and the App Store.
“Kouvola is the latest Finnish city to use PayiQ’s account-based mobile ticketing solution,” said Tuomo Parjanen, CEO of PayiQ. “Our technology enables fast deployment of a mobile app branded according to customer’s graphic charter. Managing product selection and pricing is easy and flexible and doesn’t require app updates. We’re developing the app in cooperation with Kouvola public transport to meet the needs of both the public transport and the end-users.”
