Thirty thousand employees at Lloyds Banking Group (LBG) are using Microsoft 365 Copilot to save time on routine tasks, such as draft and summarise emails and documents, and prepare for and record meetings.

The bank invested £4 billion ($5.4 billion) in technology, data and AI in 2023, and has trained more than 10,000 people in using Copilot, resulting in a 93 per cent daily Copilot usage rate.

“People are genuinely curious, but they want to know how it helps them,” said Sophie Bialaszewski, head of experience and adoption for the modern workplace team at LBG. “Once they start using Copilot there’s a moment where they realise, ‘Oh, this is genuinely helping me day‑to‑day.’”

Due to this success rate, LBG has committed to rolling out 40,000 Copilot licenses.

Engineers at LBG are also using GitHub Copilot to convert 11,000 lines of code across 83 files in half the expected time. “A challenging 65-hour task became a 30-hour success story,” said Stuart Fosker, software engineering lead at LBG.

Darren Hardman, CEO of Microsoft UK & Ireland, said: “LBG’s pioneering approach to AI showcases the tangible impact that tools like M365 Copilot and GitHub Copilot can deliver – whether that’s saving time throughout the day on routine tasks or halving the time it takes to manage legacy IT systems.”
