The Communications Workers of America (CWA) and Microsoft have launched a new initiative called Get Connected to boost enrolment in the Federal Communication Commission’s Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP), which helps households access discounted broadband connectivity.
As part of the initiative, the organisations will participate in events throughout September and October 2022, working with local housing authorities to qualify residents for the ACP.
This partnership builds on the existing labour neutrality agreement between CWA and Microsoft that was announced in June 2022, which includes a commitment to collaborate on technology adoption and skill-building programmes.
“Broadband has become the electricity of the 21st century,” said Brad Smith, president and vice chair of Microsoft. “It’s a fundamental right that should not be beyond the reach of anyone in America. We’re glad to be working with CWA to bring more broadband access to more Americans through the ACP.”
