Daimler completes CAD software migration project

Car manufacturer Daimler has now successfully migrated all of its business units to a new computer aided design (CAD) solution – NX – from Siemens PLM Software.

The project, known internally as PLM2015, began in 2012. Since then, over 6,200 users have been trained to use NX and more than 235,000 CAD objects have been migrated to the new software.

With its solution now fully in place, the company has succeeded in integrating all of its product data management software and hopes to improve its efficiency and sustainability initiatives.

Michael Gorriz, Daimler’s CIO, explained that this is the biggest IT migration project undertaken by the company in recent decades.

“The introduction of the new design and product data software not only means that we are well prepared for the future,” he added. “We have also taken the opportunity to bring our engineering processes in line with the highest standards in the automotive industry.”

Daimler and Siemens now intend to continue working together on the further development of NX.
