Zeiss provides quality assurance solutions which offer insights into component behaviour and defect detection

Optic and optoelectronics business Zeiss has partnered with Microsoft for the delivery of patient care and manufacturing solutions. Using Microsoft Azure, artificial intelligence and the internet of things (IoT), the organisations will deliver new digital healthcare solutions and develop new solutions for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).

As part of the partnership, Zeiss will make Azure its preferred cloud platform, which Microsoft says will enable it to “provide its customers with enhanced digital experiences, address changing market needs more quickly and increase its productivity”.

“Zeiss is committed to digitally enable its customers’ business models, products and services,” said Karl Lamprecht, CEO and president at Zeiss. “We are proud to join forces with Microsoft in our quest to apply precision optics, IoT capabilities, AI and machine learning to the most demanding processes in healthcare and manufacturing.”

Zeiss will also use Azure to build a connected quality platform which enables the company and its customers to gain business insights and foster collaboration across assets that have traditionally been siloed.

The solution will also be used in medical technology, to enable customers to quickly react to quality issues, reducing downtime and increasing productivity. Microsoft says that the software will allow customers to track, trace, visualise and analyse data. Zeiss will connect its medical technology to the Microsoft cloud and leverage Azure AI and IoT technologies for new digital services such as improved clinical workflows, enhanced treatments and device maintenance. These solutions could improve the quality of life of patients and drive technological evolution in healthcare.

“Zeiss is driving innovations across industries to improve the quality of individual lives and create industrial efficiencies by overcoming data silos and integrating digital experiences,” said Scott Guthrie, executive vice president of cloud and AI at Microsoft. “Harnessing the power of Microsoft’s cloud, AI and IoT services, Zeiss is transforming into a leading digital services provider.”
