How data and security can accelerate AI from prototype to production

Microsoft platforms and tools provide an intelligent, secure foundation for the new era of AI-powered operations, says Coretek's Clint Adkins

Across the enterprise, a new operating model is taking shape. We call it the AI frontier factory: a disciplined, repeatable pipeline that converts ambition into production-grade AI. It replaces the one-off proof of concept with an industrialised practice that turns ideas into outcomes, and outcomes into a steady cadence of new opportunities discovered inside the business itself.

The AI frontier factory takes enterprises from visualisation to production sprints. It begins with structured envisioning. We work with leadership and line-of-business teams to surface candidate AI use cases, score them against value and feasibility, and rapidly prototype the most promising on Microsoft Azure AI Foundry and Microsoft Copilot Studio. Validated prototypes do not languish in the lab. They move directly into agile sprints covering production build, deployment, organisational change management and adoption measurement. As each customised AI solution lands, the factory captures the next wave of opportunities raised by users – finance, operations, customer service, engineering – feeding a continuous backlog of generative and agentic capabilities anchored in Microsoft Azure and AI-related services for purpose-built systems and agents.

Every AI workload is, at its heart, a data workload and it needs a data platform that is aligned for a specific purpose. The AI frontier factory begins with a clear-eyed review of where information lives, how it is structured and which platform truly serves the use case. For example, Microsoft Fabric provides a unified analytics estate for organisations standardising OneLake, Lakehouse and Direct Lake patterns for retrieval-augmented generation. Azure Databricks is a unified, open analytics platform well suited to large-scale data engineering and machine learning. Meanwhile, Azure Database for PostgreSQL supports lightweight vector retrieval close to transactional systems. Selecting the right platform – rather than defaulting to one – is what separates an AI experiment from an AI capability.

Security is the foundation of the AI frontier factory, not an afterthought. Agentic AI multiplies access pathways, so the AI frontier factory must harden the ground beneath every workload. We assess existing investments in Microsoft Defender, Sentinel, Purview and Entra, then extend them with additional solutions to better govern AI specifically. Concentric – a partnership between Microsoft and Concentrix – combined with Purview, is a critical part of data governance from discovery to categorisation, monitoring and data protection inside the tenant that grounds all AI systems. Microsoft Entra ID provides role-based access control for agent identities, ensuring an agent acts within the boundaries of the user it serves. Microsoft Defender for Cloud and Azure AI Content Safety address prompt, model and runtime risks. Another key partner is Elastic, which delivers AI for IT operations and large language model (LLM) observability to monitor and optimise LLM performance, cost, safety and reliability.

Ultimately, the Coretek AI frontier factory turns AI from a series of pilots into an operating discipline – envisioned with the business, engineered on Microsoft platforms and strategic partner solutions, grounded in trusted data, and secured by design. That is how we see enterprises move from AI curiosity to compounding the value of AI deployed systems.
